Embroidery Digitizing: An Article for Newcomers

Honestly, there is a lot of material and I am really confused where I should start this article. I hope you guys would find it interesting and informative.I often meet the people, they ask me approximately the same question about embroidery digitizing, and roughly words would be:I am graphic designer/ illustrator, I use this and that and now I want to convert my vector designs into embroidery and market them” According to this scenario, people think that embroidery digitizing is an easy job to do or get maximum profit. Yeah, I agree you can, of course, do this with the help of few clicks, but what you think the designs would be good? No guys they will not. Digitizing is a skill to learn, a craft, a trade, and art absolutely. So if you going to become an embroidery digitizer/engineer you have to research a lot and need to collect the accurate information as well. Spend some time to learning, reading, researching, classes and getting experience to become an artist. After all of that, you just need to have a good computer installed with good and right software and embroidery machine.

Am I ranting a bit? I really don’t mean to. Embroidery digitizing is a skill and art. A good artist takes time, effort and a bunch of work to develop. Before jumping directly to become a digitizer/engineer, you need to carefully understand what embroidery is? You need to understand the needles, thread, stitches and where to use them. It is very popular nowadays, everything is available on the computer screen or internet but it is not. You can’t learn properly until you understand and do it practically.Next thing what you really need to understand, what is the embroidery machine, embroidery threads, hoop sizes, bobbin threads and needles etc. these all are the major and basic things of any embroidery task.

Next thing is a stabilizer, the stabilizer is something like which is design to support or replace the fabric under the stress of dense. It is multi directional machine stitching, it can be applied in many ways, but usually, it is used in conjunction with an embroidery hoop. The most technical part of it is to understand the stitches density. The design completely varies to stitch density. It will be ruined if you do not know how to fix it.Once you familiar with all described points, you will become a better digitizer/artist as well. These are some important tasks to perform, being an expert in these tasks you can definitely be able to get a digitizer job or make your own embroidery digitizing company.

A Brief Introduction to Embroidery Digitizing

In the beginning of Internet technology, it is used as a hobby to digitize into fabrics. In terms of cost, you only have to invest a small amount of money to get a very good return in a short period of time. The companies who provide digitizing services is actually motivating the world to facilitate them with the benefits of embroidery digitizing. They want to boost their company. Embroidery digitizing is actually an art. The artist took help of the software and convert images into stitches. But it does not mean to upload the image and sit back to the chair after some clicks. You have to do every step under your observation. It is necessary to have some imagination, pictures, and details that can get your desired design. What Companies do and why:

Companies need digitizing because a simple picture cannot be digitized until it is properly designed by the digitizer. That is the reason behind, companies need an embroidery digitizing to create a logo. That is the reason behind, it is more popular and its popularity increasing day by day, everyone boosting itself to invest in digitizing company, opening a digitizing company is not tough enough as compared to making it the best by its services.

Digitizer’s Task:

In embroidery digitizing first of all the engineer dissects each design into layers and section to find out how every section matches with the other. Merging and blending of colors are also taken into consideration during defining the design process.

Some of the designs are not suitable for embroidery digitization because of 3D (three-dimensional).

Fabric knowledge:

It is essential to have knowledge about all types of fabrics and their push-pull aspects. It is very important to know the boundaries of digitizing services, needles, threads, and stabilizers etc. not only for embroidery digitizing but also for every other thing you are going to do it’s essential to have a complete knowledge about that thing. A complete research will make you able to get success in your life.

Computer compatibility and Memory:

Anyway back to our point. The machine is the fundamental thing for digitizing after that you must have the design you want to digitize. The other thing to consider, the machine cannot be able to run the design that does not match with the computer digitization software. That’s a bit confusing task. Computer processor must be fast such as IBM PC because if it stops during processing a design, you would have to face loss. Use a comfortable non-roller ball mouse; it is hard to do the accurate imagining with the roller ball mouse. If we talk about memory it is better to use external memory drive for your embroidery designs, there are unlimited imaging and designs. The software occupied 100 MB space during installation. Once you start to save the designs you would have to need much space in Hard Drive with good processor and RAM.
